The ConIFA World Cup is an international football tournament for states, minorities, stateless people and stateless regions which are not eligible to affiliate with FIFA. 2016 will be the first year that teams will have to qualify rather than all the teams being invited to play.
The Chagos Islands Football Association was formed in 2013 and, to date, has only played friendly matches. This year the team hopes to step forward and play in their first international tournament, the ConIFA World Cup. The team, many of whom are live in and around Crawley have begun fundraising for their campaign. If you would like to support the Chagos Football Association, you can donate via the Chagos Refugees Group .org website and choose the ‘Sport Fund’ option.
